Here are answers to some questions you may
have:
Q. I'm pretty "computer savvy" as a user,
but that's about it. Can I do this?
A. Absolutely! The uSight tool (uBuilder) is
very user-friendly, has clear, non-technical instructions, and is easy to
navigate; you will have the uSight Customer Service 800 number, with a live
person answering; and Chrystalis Web Systems will be standing by to help.
Q: How do I get started?
A: You will receive a User ID and Password from
uSight, allowing you private access to the uBuilder online tools. Following
the uSight instructions (and with assistance from Customer Service if needed),
the first steps are things like Domain Name, Site Name, selecting a site
template style you prefer, and assembling your library of product pictures,
animation and the like. After that, you start building pages, typing text and
following the instructions, until you feel it is a complete site.
Q: Will I have choices about the look of my
site?
A: Yes! uSight provides 14 choices of site
templates - each with a different look, color-theme, and style. You can try
each and every one if you wish - then choose. That's the way we did it
- why not?
Q How long does it take to build my site?
A: That will vary. If you need a fairly simple
site - just a few pages, with information about your products or service, and
about how to order and contact you, it can be done in just a few hours. If
your site will have many pages, with lots of text and graphics, it may take
several sessions over several days, depending upon how long you work on it
each session.
We completed our basic site, with 13 pages,
animation & pictures, in about 3 days - then spent the next few weeks
fine-tuning. We think this is probably fairly typical.
Q: When it is ready, how do I launch my
site?
A: Your uBuilder has two very important
buttons. One says PREVIEW - to see what your site will actually look like -
before you are ready to launch it "live" onto the Internet. You will
probably use this button a lot - to check your work as you go along. The other button
says PUBLISH - that's the one you click on when you are ready to go live!
Q: Can I change or add to my site after it
is published?
A: Of course! If you chose the web hosting
option, simply go back into your
uBuilder, make the changes/additions, and Publish again - as often as you
wish. This is the maintenance you won't ever have to pay someone $100 an
hour to do for you! If you chose the web page option, just email the new .htm
or .html pages to us and you page/site will be updated within a few hours. If
you have special instruction, just tell us when you start your account.
Q: After publishing, how do I get traffic to
my site?
A: First of all, order some new business
cards with your new Web address on them! Eventually, you'll want to add
your web address to all of your other business documents and advertising - but
just take it at the pace you can afford.
Beyond that exciting first (small) step, there
are so many different ways to market your site that we really can't attempt to
cover them here. Suffice to say, this should be your next important step after
publishing. There are many companies who offer services in this area -
some free, some not.
To help you get started, Chrystalis Web
Consulting can register your site with 1500 search engines, including
all the big ones. Additionally, we offer many additional marketing services,
such as traffic monitoring, ongoing search engine submission services,
upgraded website entry-pages and custom banners - or we can put together a
whole marketing campaign for you, if you wish. However, you should definitely
plan to investigate all of the many available options for yourself, and decide
what marketing approach you prefer, and what your budget will be. You might
also want to talk with other small business owners you know who have websites,
to see what worked well for them (and what didn't).
We CAN tell you that in general, "pop-up"
ads are NOT terribly popular with most web users, but you may want to consider the
newer, less intrusive "pop-under" advertising currently being offered.
Q: How can I get live help if I need it?
A: uSight Customer Service is available Monday
thru Friday 9AM 'til 8 PM (Central Time). Chrystalis Web Systems is never more
than an e-mail (or call) away - and we check our voice and e-mails at least
twice every day, 7 days a week.
Q. I've see ads to "Get your own website
for $19.95!" Any comment?
A. Just one - in this case, it is really TRUE
that you get what you pay for. This is a long term investment in the
future of your business, and you should approach it that way. Many of those
"cheap" sites you see advertised are not truly set up to handle a
BUSINESS website - and buyers may experience problems, such as: the server
crashing; limited pages, capacities or resources for your site; virtually NO
live customer support; or (this is really bad) the site being limited
to one visitor at a time - just to name a few.
Remember, if you choose an inferior product or
provider, and as a result your website is offline or otherwise unavailable for
even a few hours (usually it's more like a whole DAY), the money you lose
during that time will probably be MUCH more than you "saved" by
purchasing a cheap website. uSight, our parent company, has been serving
